Pessoal, junto com o cd de driver da minha controladora IDE SCSI Promise ATA
100 UltraDMA veio um patch pra instal�-la no linux, s� que diz q funciona
apenas no rh6.1 e 6.2 e se, caso o meu sistema fosse diferente pra que eu
fizesse as altera��es...por favor me ajudem...
segue abaixo o readme... (eu uso cl7 kernel 2.4.5)
ULTRA100/66 LINUX Driver (1.00) Installation note [06.JUL.2000]
The Device Driver only support RedHat Linux 6.1/6.2 .
If your Linux system version is different from RH6.1/6.2.
Please, modify the patch file , rh61-u100.pat or rh62-u100.pat ,
for your Linux system .
INSTALL ULTRA100/66 DRIVER INTO AN EXISTING SYSTEM
1. Make sure you have an unmodified source tree under /usr/src/linux.
2. Patch the Linux source under source tree /usr/src :
#patch -p0 < [path]/rh61-u100.pat (RH6.1)
#patch -p0 < [path]/rh62-u100.pat (RH6.2)
3. Make Kernel under /usr/src/linux to create new Linux Kernel with the
Promise information embedded.
#make (menu)config : enable items as follow :
Block devices/
(enable) Generic PCI IDE chipset support/
(enable) Generic PCI bus-master DMA support/
(enable) PROMISE PDC202xx chipset support
#make dep
#make clean
#make bzImage
4. Copy the newly compiled kernel into the boot directory :
cp /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot/vmlinuz-u100
5. Inform the boot loader about the new kernel to edit /etc/lilo.conf as
such :
boot=/dev/hda
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
prompt
timeout=50
**** ADD THIS PART *****
image=/boot/vmlinuz-u100
label=Ultra100
root=/dev/hda1
read-only

6. Also, update LILO by typing 'lilo' you should see an asterisk next to the
label "Ultra100" indicating that LILO is now aware of the new kernel.
7. Reboot. The Promise Patch will be automatically included in the bootable
kernel.
BOOTING FROM ULTRA100/66
1. Physically install the Ultra100/66 card into the Linux PC.
2. Attach the drive which includes the new kernel to primary channel of
Ultra100/66 card.
3. Power on PC.
4. Set "HDD Sequence SCSI First" on BIOS and save it .
5. Reboot.
6. At "boot:" prompt enter : "Ultra100"
BOOTING FROM Mother-Board
If you want to boot from mother-board,
Please remove Promise Ultra100/66 card from mother-board, and
attach the drive which includes the new kernel to primary channel
of mother-board,and then run the new kernel.
ps:
If you would like to install two Ultra100/66 cards into the Linux PC ,
You can issue commands "mknod /dev/DEV b major minor" to create
device files "hdix,hdjx,hdkx,hdlx" for IDE4,IDE5 by yourself.
IDE0 : first Ultra100/66 primary channel
IDE1 : first Ultra100/66 secondary channel
IDE2 : second Ultra100/66 primary channel
IDE3 : second Ultra100/66 secondary channel
IDE4 : mother-board primary channel (major number = 56)
IDE5 : mother-board secondary channel (major number = 57)
