Hi Linux Fans ..

I am one of those Linux addicted without good experience in Linux
configuration. My goal is mainly getting a fair replacement for WinSlows
95/98 with all the necessary hardware configuration ............. And
Linux IS the solution.
I mainly only do Web stuff like IRC, Netscape, few word processing. And
might look soon to run aWeb server like Apache and ftp server. I also do
some MP3 recording as well as using my machine as a juke box ......
which brings up to my config problem.

Current Configuration related to problem:
Pentium Pro - 64 Meg Ram Dell Dimension
SB AWE 32 pnp
etc .....

Problem:
I can`t get my sound card to work. When reading the Sound HOWTO as well
as isapnptools manual, it does not help me much .... it simply does not
work when I follow instructions.

Is there any application, scripts or else that will some sort check my
sound config and tell me what is wrong ?

FYI : When I have installed RedHat package for testing only, the sound
card was working. But I really wanted to run Slackware so ........

Also, since I am interested in upgrading to Slackware 3.6, could this
solve my problem ?
... And .... Can I upgrade my system while keeping my current config
that works (eg video card, Netscape address book, etc .... )

FYI , I really like Slackware .... but if you think that Redhat or any
other distribution may be better for me... let me know

Thanks to all Linux gurus for your more than fantastic support .........
I constantly read the Linux-config mailing list.
