Andrew,

  I object to your statement that this is "the most efficient" route to
troubleshooting your problem.  I can't speak for the folks on the Rutgers
lists, but I know that the GNHLUG list is read by people who don't mind
helping you out but still have jobs of their own.
  I think that if you've read all of the available documentation, checked
newsgroup postings with something like DejaNews, and actually experimented
with the problem, then it's perfectly fine to ask others for help.
However, you've just admitted to hundreds of people that this Linux PPP
project is not worth *your* time, so you want *others* to do your research
for you...
  I agree that it's much more "efficient" to have others do your work for
you, but how much will you learn about Linux if you don't learn it
yourself?  Once again, I want to remind both you and all the readers that
I think the "community" aspect is one of the best reasons to own and
operate a Linux machine, but we must be careful not to take advantage of
the time and resources of other busy people...
