Hi All,

I've been following the conversations on modem troubles with an interest. I am
also having the problem that my modem does not respond ever since I installed a
new kernel. Here is some of the details:

* I'm using Slackware 4.0
* the modem is an old USR 14.4 (no PnP).
* Its jumpers are set to COM 2 and IRQ 3 (from memory, but its what is speced in
the serial How-to.
* my /dev/modem is linked to /dev/cua1.
* when I run rc.serial It says that I have cua0 and cua1
* minicom's initialization of the modem produces nothing and I can not type
anything at the promt.
* when I use minicom's dialing directory to dial out nothing happens, but when I
exit minicom the modem goes off hook.
* Yes. I have read the Serial How-to, but it is pretty vague when it comes to
trouble shooting this problem.
* I've checked for the lock file under /var/lock

Does Anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks in advance

Stuart Wood
