Just one: Your route to AltaVista included a router that rejected packets
larger than 1500 rather than reporting back to your system that that was a
problem. The window size should be negotiable, but 1500 is usually as large
as they go and times get smaller. The optimal size is the smallest size
required for the route, since those bottlenecks slow down the large packets
(or drop them as in your case).
