I don't know if this is very relavant but I was having a lot of trouble
getting my PnP-SB16 to work - errors very similar to  yours although I don't
remember exactly what they were.

I got around it by going into my BIOS and disabling "Boot to PnP OS"... from
then on, its been working like a charm. =)
