just picked up a mandrake 6.1 CD. im usin' an IDE-only, x86 system with my primary IDE channel containing win98 on the master and a CD-ROM on the secondary. the secondary master w/o a slave is 6.4GB drive that i'm placin g linux on. i ran it through the install. all the normal options for a workstation. chose not to make a boot disk, just install lilo in the MBR and choose between dos and linux at boot. everything went beautifully as it should, but i restart and when lilo shoulda popped up asking which label i'd like to boot, it streamed an infinite amount of string-literal '01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01'. hmm. that's a bad thing. so i try the install again. this time i choose 'everything' as far as packages, make a boot disk, and install lilo to the MBR again. lilo does the same thing at reboot. crap, so I try the boot disk. lilo actually shows me a prompt, but when it tries to boot the label 'linux', it starts uncompressing the kernel, but before it outputs any of the periods used somewhat like a status bar, it outputs 'Error 0x02' and quits. i've successfully installed redhat 5.1 and 5.2 on this machine with no problems with lilo. recently added a new hard drive, though, the primary master. any ideas?
