Hi Folks,

Good news. Jeff and I met with the lawyer (C V Francis, Rishi
Chawla's boss) at their office today. Major points which emerged:

1. They will charge Rs. 15,000 for the whole legal work involved with
setting up the society. Many thanks to Mr Francis for reducing the
fee.

2. We will have the basic rules and regulations and the memorandum
available for discussion at the next meeting. I'm not posting it to
the list -- I feel a face to face discussion will be more productive.
Please be there if you want to influence the process.

3. Seven people have to be present to form the society. I'm putting
the names of seven people down for this and informing them.

4. These seven will constitute the initial governing body of the
society. In the next meeting (May 21st) we will have elections for
the ``real'' GB, and once the society is registered we will formally
elect the real GB, kicking these seven in the *censored*.

5. The society will be registered with its office at my Mother's
place in Munirka. If anyone has a better suggestion, please bring it
out at the meeting.

Now we need to get Rs. 15,000 together. Please contribute if you
can. Students are not permitted to contribute!

You can probably kiss any money you give for registration goodbye.
We'll try to return money once the society is formed if we have some
extra cash lying around (ha!), but the chances are low. Also,
remember that you do not gain any special privileges by contributing.
So only promise your hard-earned (or your Dad's/Wife's/Kids'
hard-earned :-) money if you're acting from purely unselfish motives!

Ghane has promised a lot of money, but I feel we should only hit his
pocket if we have no other resource left. Insh'allah we shall be able
to make up the money by ourselves.

Regards,

-- Raju
