Installation problems, source & rpm

[East Iowa Commercial Real Estate Appraisers]

I'm running Caldera Open Linux 1.2 with kernel 2.0.33 on a compaq 486.  My
gcc is 2.7.2.3. 

I've download the latest source (0.16) & patch (0.16.5) off the diald
homepage, threw the source in /usr/src/diald... and patched it.  modified
the config.h to match my program locations.  compiled the program and I get
nothing but

Segmentation fault

So I tried again.  Repeatedly.  Same problem.

So I downloaded the latest RPM off of Redhat (0.16.4-1), plugged that in
and got

Segmentation fault


Please, if you have any idea what is screwed up, let me know, I'm running
out of ideas and would really like to get this up and running.
