The problem with route is it will probe every network interface in your
machine. If you look in the diald.conf file, you'll see something like
this:
local <some_ip_address1>
remote <some_ip_address2>
so route will probe the remote address thru the fake slip link sl0 ( check
your ifconfig) and diald will bring the link up. One trivial solution is to
add in your /etc/host file this line
<some_ip_address2> <your_linux_box_name>
It worked well for me.
