Apologies for appearing rather green with regards Linux and diald - I have
inherited a system at work and some new problems are forcing me to try to
learn quickly !
Basically - we have a RedHat 5.1, Pentium 90 system with diald-0.16.4-1
running perfectly for several months ( setup by someone who has now left).
Over the last month we have suffered increasing connect problems -
frequently netstat reports ppp0 as being up yet when we type route - the
console locks and the command doesn't finish until the line times out. No
traffic passes and the sendmail cannot DNS the ISP's mailserver.
Unfortunately these problems started at the same time as I was trying to
get dial-in ppp working - when the problems occured, I naturally thought it
was my fault ! After speaking to my ISP, I'm not so sure. They say that
they have problems after installing a new modem rack and they've been a
week unable to fix it ( NTL is the ISP !).
My worry is that I can't understand why the route command would lock up due
to their routing - or might it be something at my end ?
This is an excerpt from the messages file -

I'm not so worried about the CCP timeouts as yet but could anyone please
give me some pointers to confirm the problem is not at our end ?
I hope I've described the basic problem well enough ! Thanks in advance -
George.
