That hardware should be ok.

My diald starts dialing in 2 seconds.  But that's RedHat 5.2 with all updates
including kernel rpm 2.0.36-1.  I posted instructions for making it work
in a separate message to this list today.  You might need to upgrade to

5.2 though.
