When reading your E-Mail, it reminded me of a problem I had when I first
setup pppd on my Linux machine (I was not at the stage of using diald yet).
I had bought a Motorola 33.6K internal modem, and I could not make the pppd
to work. I tried for days, trying to fogure out where the problem was.
When connecting manually (using microcomm), everything was fine, but the
pppd script was not working at all.
My pppd was working with my old external 14.4K modem, but not with the new
modem.
Out of despair, I went to the local computer shop and bought a CHEAP modem
(Zoltrix 33.6k Internal). I put it in my computer: et voila! The whole
thing was working now (and is still working). The modem was the culprit!
And I do not know what was wrong.
