Hello all:
I have recently installed diald on my 486 RedHat 5.1 system using the 2
diald rpms. Diald now connects and disconnects fairly well (usually). I
do have a wierd setup, though. I connect to the internet using an
internal GI Surfboard cablemodem. This is a hybrid modem system, in that
data is recieved over the cable but sent via PPP. So my system connects
to the internet through a standard ppp system. My ISP then redirects any
incomming data to the cablemodem rather than the modem. This is resulting
in some rather erratic diald operation, which is to be expected (it
doesn't reconize the different connections ending primarly).
The part that is not normal is the middle of the night lockups. I have a
script that attempts to connect to an ftp site at 4:00am. It activates
diald. However, for whatever reason, when it tries to log its attempt, it
locks the syslogd. As a result, I can not log in, or do practically
anthing on the system. I am able to use any open shells, but not any
commands that would generate a syslog entery.
Has anyone else seen this behavior? Does anyone have any suggestions?
Need more info? Any help appreciated.
