You can try doing it in two steps. First send a signal to close the
link (SIGINT), then send a signal to kill diald (SIGTERM). If you have
FIFO enabled, you can send it commands (as root, of course) simply
using echo. For example, my FIFO pipe is located at
/etc/diald/diald.ctl. I can send it a command to close the link with
the following command:
echo down > /etc/diald/diald.ctl
You could try sending it the quit command which will close the link and
make it exit. I don't know if it will update the logs properly, but
you can try it. Take a look at the diald-control man page for more
info.
