OK, that's a possible reason for why my pppd gets no response from the pppd at
my ISP - it's not running!   However, I tried that and now diald will not even
try to connect when there's traffic for my isp.  I added the & this way;

/usr/sbin/chat& -v -f /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/chat-ppp0

What about the result code ?  ( result=$? )

Other suggestions . . ?
