Heya all,
First - let me say this is a pretty nifty product - I'd never played
with it before this weekend and it really was pretty snifty - other than
the fact that I couldn't get it running completely *laffs*. Here's what I
did. Linux 2.2.5 (Redhat 6.0) server running Samba services, dialup, etc.
Dialup and masq firewall are correctly configured and it runs like a champ
with on all of the time. I installed diald and got it configured (I
thought). Here's what would happen when I made a traffic (tcp port 80 in
this case) request:
Diald fires up and initializes pppd - which dials, authenticates (PAP)
and connects, diald then replaces the sl0 devices (& their fake IP
addresses) with ppp0 devices (and their appropriate IP addresses) and all
looks good - but traffic doesn't actually go over the line. I can't ping
from the firewall itself down the line, let alone traffic from the local
network.
I've included a uname -a, my diald.conf & the pertinent message log
entries. The only thing that sticks out to me (other than the fact that it
doesn't work) is these two entries in /var/log/messages.
Jul 31 13:56:55 oslcserver diald[1545]: start sl0: SIOCSIFMETRIC: Operation
not supported
Jul 31 13:58:59 oslcserver diald[1590]: start ppp1: SIOCSIFMETRIC:
Operation not supported
Please ignore the fact that the log references ppp1 as I had a phantom
ppp0 device left over from an earlier attempt. In earlier attempts the
logs referenced ppp0.
Thanks!!
