I've search Howtos, FAQs & the web to no avail. I think I'm really close,
but . . .

The weird thing is that the chat script works fine when I use it to
establish ppp link without diald running.

The following results from executing /usr/sbin/diald (1st 6 entries) and
trying to use fetchmail to trigger the dialup:

Aug 2 00:30:51 zadkiel diald[7850]: Creating FIFO
Aug 2 00:30:51 zadkiel diald[7850]: Using fifo /etc/diald/diald.ctl

Aug 2 00:31:16 zadkiel diald[7850]: Delaying 30 seconds before clear to dial.

My diald.conf conforms to my repeated reading of the DIALD-EXAMPLES for
dynamic ppp:

debug 31
mode ppp
connect "/usr/sbin/chat -v -f /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/chat-ppp0"
device /dev/ttyS1
speed 57600
modem
lock
crtscts
local 10.0.0.1
remote 10.0.0.2
dynamic
defaultroute
mtu 1500
mru 1500
window 2048
accounting-log /var/log/diald.log
fifo /etc/diald/diald.ctl
include /usr/lib/diald/standard.filter

Any ideas appreciated.
