Hello again. I'm working to set up a 386 as a router to provide ip
masquerading for a small network, but I've encountered a few problems with
diald. I have nothing but a network card in the computer(no masq...yet) so
most conflicts etc... can be avoided. My modem is a Bitsurfer pro on ttyS2,
as can be seen in the conf file. My messages file shows that tcp.ssl is
not a known service port(an easy fix, but could someone refresh me?), modprobe
can't find tap0 - tap15, and finallydiald complains when starting sl0:
SIOCSIFMETRIC: Operation not supported. Then, after all that, I've got pppd
problems. The network script fails. I don't think it's communicating at all
with the bitsurfer because it gets no response. And, YES, the modem is
connected to ttyS2. I can't test it, however becuase it requires a VT100
terminal. Seyon is one such terminal, but it requires X, which I don't have.
I included a few files(maybe I've got something obvious wrong?) to look at. My
main priority is simply getting PPP working and then I'll figure out diald.
I'm using this diald.conf:
accounting-log /var/log/diald.log
debug
# stuff to set up the diald connection
device /dev/ttyS2
speed 115200
lock
local 10.0.0.1
remote 10.0.0.2
mode ppp
# We may get another terminal server, thus use
# 'dynamic' and do not tell PPP the IP number of the other end
# For use with gated, comment out the 'dynamic' option, and
# set remote to be the same as local
dynamic
pppd-options name UU/ppp80073
# Delay sending packets for 5 seconds after PPP device opens -
# this allows routes to be established back to the appropriate dialup server.
#up-delay 1
defaultroute
modem
crtscts
connect "/usr/sbin/chat -f /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/chat-ppp0"
#redial-timeout 10
fifo /etc/diald/diald.ctl
#idle-timeout 60
restrict 8:00:00 17:00:00 1-5 * *
down
restrict * * * * *
include /usr/lib/diald/standard.filter
my chat-ppp0 file looks like this:
'ABORT' 'BUSY'
'ABORT' 'ERROR'
'ABORT' 'NO CARRIER'
'ABORT' 'NO DIALTONE'
'ABORT' 'Invalid Login'
'ABORT' 'Login incorrect'
'' '"my init string is on the actual computer"'
'OK' 'ATD7510578'
'CONNECT' ''
I'd appriciate a reply tonight if anyone's around.
