Sounds like one of your initialization scripts sets the default route to
eth0.  Probably only the local network route should be to eth0, the
default route should be set up by diald.

It might be trying to resolve some machine name or IP number.  Things will
go much smoother if you set up named on your box.  I believe there was an
article in Linux Gazette that can help you.
