Bingo! I'm an idiot! I caught this just after I posted.

Can you explain what ethertap is all about? Is this something I want or
need? I have a simple home network using ethernet and I connect to my ISP
using ppp. I will be using diald and ip masq to share my ISP connection,
on-demand, with all the nodes on my network. I am using a stock RH 6.0
kernel (2.2.5-15) which I think includes ethertap modules and slip. The slip
support seems to work fine. Should I worry about tap?

Thanx!
