Netscape may be configured to use an smtp server that is not on your
network? who knows. there could be a million reasons. use the debug
option in your diald.conf file to have it dump information to the
syslog. I find 'debug 31' to be a useful setting. The info should
wind up in /var/log/messages.
you might also want to run a network traffic analyzer. I like iptraf
myself. there are plenty to choose from though.
