Anyone explain where this error is coming from?

Slip is compiled into the kernel. And I'm having to use an RPM
cause it seems the dist site is in the down state. RPM was 0.99.1-
2 from the Redhat contrib site.
I'm on Slackware 7.0 with kernel 2.2.13 and all the lovely glibc 6
stuff.
Oh and that error appears in /var/log/messages, diald stays running
and even starts 2 sl0 processes.
