I wonder whether someone may have found a fix for this problem - it is not a
new one ( only for me !).
I've looked over the archives back a year or so and seen the problem,
suggestions but no definitive answer.
I am building a new system using RH6 (kernel 2.2.5) & have installed diald /
ethertap. Diald appears to start up and configure the interfaces correctly
but chat doesn't seem to talk to the modem.
The chat script works fine when called with ifup ppp0 but diald gives :
chat[2262]: Can't get terminal parameters: Invalid argument
diald[2254]: Connect script failed.
diald[2254]: Delaying 10 seconds before clear to dial.
.......(repeated)
I've really cut down the /etc/diald.conf :-
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------
accept any 420 any
include /usr/lib/diald/standard.filter
# stuff to set up the diald connection
mode ppp
connect "/usr/sbin/chat -v -f /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/chat-ppp0"
device /dev/ttyS0
speed 38400
crtscts
modem
lock
mode ppp
dynamic
local 10.0.0.1
remote 10.0.0.2
pppd-options name freeserve
up-delay 5
defaultroute
redial-timeout 10
fifo /etc/diald/diald.ctl
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----
I saw mention of putting -daemon in /etc/diald.conf but the problem stays
the same.
The device option is correct /dev/ttyS0 - I also tried it set to
/dev/modem ( and made a link).
There was a suggestion to change to 0.98 - if anyone can confirm this is a
known problem
then I'll have to do this !
Many thanks in advance - regards - George Mailer.
