MyData Automation (http://www.mydata.se/) uses Linux to control
their Pick'n'Place machines, i.e. 'robots' that place electronic
components on PCBs before soldering. It's not actually used to
control the movements of the arms that place the components, but
for things such as determining what to place where, when it's time
to alert about filling up resistors in the trays the machine picks
them from etc.

They had used Verilog's Venix RTOS before, and found Linux to be
much better from a worst case response time point of view. It might
not be theoretically deterministic in response time, but it worked
much better than that expensive RTOS in real life.

The guy in charge for this, Fredric Fredricsson, is on the linux-biz
mailing list, and he can probably be located on the web with some
effort.
