I do not exactly characterize our application as embedded but we
do use the real-time capabilities in Linux. We do not depend
on them so we don't need any guaranteed worst case response times
or so.
It is true that Linux outperformed Venix when we tested interrupt
response times, but our tests where hardly scientific. On the other
have, we choose to believe in the result.
The actual reason for our choice is based on a lot more things
than real time capabilities. Important factors have been (for
example):
* Hardware support (drivers for network cards etc.)
* Stability (in Linux we trust...)
* Development tools
* Close to our old environment (Venix SVr3)
