I am interested in porting a small Linux kernel for the
Octagon CPUs we use at work. They
are a PC architecture, with embedded DOS in a ROM. I'd
ideally like to burn a replacement
boot ROM for them with the kernel in it. octagon web site:
www.octa.com Octagon is
very nice hardware, because it's standard 8 bit ISA bus
passive backplane cards in a
cardcage, with extended (-40 degC) operating temperature
range, and all in one boards
with CPU, Flash Disk, and onboard Analog/Digital I/O and
RS-485.

Our systems running embedded DOS right now automatically
redirect the BIOS interrupts
for console output to the com1 port if there is no video
card present.

Is such a kernel, not just patched for serial I/O, but
capable of headless or video output, depending on a probe
for a
video card, possible in Linux?
