We at 3I have just developed an Internet Fax Box using embedded Linux. The Internet
fax box is a small device which connects to your fax machine and allows you to send
faxes for free over the Internet. It uses a free fax networks or can work
point-to-point between two IFBs. It can also retrieve and print your e-mail without a
need for a PC.

The IFB uses 4 MB DiskOnChip and 8 MB of RAM for RAM disk and conventional RAM. The
current processor is a 386 and we are looking to convert to a Motorola in the future.
It uses stripped down Linux, which can fit into a bit more then 1 MB of flash. We have
written our application from scratch using GNU C++. The device also has a LCD display
and can be configured from the keypad of a fax machine or a touch tone phone. A LAN
version is in the works.

Due to the in part to the efficiency if Linux, we are running 8 processes
simultaneously, perfuming various tasks.
