You are not limited to the distribution vendor for support. That's one
of the best attributes of Linux--that it enables an open market in
support. In analogy to a car, the hood is not welded shut, requiring
you to send the car back to the factory for repairs.
Not only are there a number of smaller, but reputable, vendors like
Quiotix offer support for Linux, but if you are looking for a more
"corporate" independent support provider, there are companies like
LinuxCare, or in some cases VA Linux or Cygnus (now owned by Red Hat).
We have found that one of the things like most about Linux is the
ability to get out from under the thumb of a platform vendor who, all
too frequently, wants to know what you can do for them, not what they
can do for you.
