I also recognized this problem on my fai server in mid-june. The latest debootstrap doesn't solved the problem, neither did using an offical mirror. I tracked down the problem to be in the file /usr/lib/debootstrap/scripts/woody. The following patch does not fix the bug, but it solves the problem of a not functional deboostrap: === cut === - --- /usr/lib/debootstrap/scripts/woody.orig Wed Jun 16 15:22:39 2004 +++ /usr/lib/debootstrap/scripts/woody Wed Jun 16 15:22:46 2004 @@ -119,7 +119,7 @@ echo \ "Package: $pkg - -Version: $ver +Version: 1.9.21 Status: install ok installed" >> "$TARGET/var/lib/dpkg/status" touch "$TARGET/var/lib/dpkg/info/${pkg}.list" === cut === It seems, that the variable $ver is empty when writing a status entry for dpkg. I don't know why this suddenly happened, but also another fai administrator here at university of paderborn noticed the same problem on his server. hth, Holger Mense - -- Holger Mense Rechnerbetrieb Mathematik -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.4 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFBF4IcHjdfhHqYjTQRAj8pAJ9GeoEzfrv82RzI4NyHMr6+tEWjvACfdz8f +N4j04P6WNO65ax3Xu0gW9Y= =NWVh -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
