Now is that a Stylus Photo 750, or is it a Stylus Color 750 (if such a
thing exists?).

The Photo 750 is listed as "mostly" working, although from the
comments it sounds more like "partially"; only 4 of the 6 inks are
used, which rather defeats the purpose of a 6-color printer.

I have no information on the Color 750, if there is one.

Since you appear to be searching for a good printer to buy, you might
want to work from the Printing HOWTO's compatibility list:
http://www.picante.com/~gtaylor/pht/printer_list.cgi

There is a link at that URL for "all perfectly working color inkjets";
this seems to be what you want...

I have a Diamond Fireport 40 scsi card and I'm not able to get it to

the dumb thing is that the scsi-2 branch of the card seems to
get ignored, whereas linux only foccusses on the wide branch.

I hope upgrading to the 2.2.x kernel will solve my problems as well.

Date: Wed, 28 Apr 1999 05:12:21 GMT

Hi,

I have an Ensoniq Soundscape sound card and I can't seem to get it to
work...

Any ideas would be helpful!

The specific error I get when configuring with "sndconfig":

==========================================
The following error occurred running
modprobe program:

/lib/modules/preferred/misc/sscape.o:
init_module: Device or resource busy
sound: Device or resource busy

==========================================

"sndconfig" can detect my card a Ensoniq Soundscape, but
the above failure message occurs when it trys to test it.

I am running RH 5.2, Kernel 2.0.36

Address specifics:

Address resources: x0330-x033F
IRQ 5, 9
DMA 1,3

In Win95 it uses the following:
MIDI, 330, IRQ 9
WAVE, 338, IRQ 5, DMA 1

Thanks,
Jay.

I have a USR 56K modem and running RedHat 5.2. I've read that I should
use PPP in combination with chat. Now, I can make the modem work with
any program (minicom, dip), except chat (is that Murphy again!).

Since I really don't know much about that program, I don't know what
could possibly go wrong. What is different in chat than in other
programs? What is device that chat is trying to connect? I made
/dev/modem, which is link to /dev/cua1.
When I start chat with script which looks like following:

    "" AT
    OK AT...

I just never get any answer from the modem (I tried other things too,
like ATZ, different initialization strings, all things that work fine
with other programs).

If anybody knows what could be the problem, please let me know!
Thanks.

You may have jostled the video card and broken a marginal solder joint.
The Hercules card I'm using was abandoned by a friend who did just that;
I found the bad solder joints. Try *gently* wiggling one corner of the
video board in such a way as to *slightly* warp the card, while watching
the display to see if it changes the specks.

Is there any pattern to the specks?

The older non-PnP Creatix is a clone of the Teles S0/16 (warning: *not*
the S0/16.3!). Which is supported by Linux, so it should work. I have
one of them, but I'm not using it with Linux (my gateway machine has a

somebody wrote already: Since you're using modules, add the following line to
/etc/conf.modules options aha152x aha152x=0x340,11,7,1
   (this assumes I/O=0x340, interrupt=11)

The module does only probe some limited number of ports. If you have a IOMEGA
ZOOM
card, which is sold for using with the ZIP drive, the port address is 0x140 and
IRQ 11.,
according to the installation manual..

Just look in your hardware handbook and substitute the proper port address and
IRQ
as options for the aha152x module.

Thanks for the response. I'll keep it in mind because my floppy is dead and
a ditto was more than enough ability to backup my drive twice over before
accounting for any compression, so I'll get one of those in stead of a new
floppy for my laptop and get more oomph in the process.

It might be hardware related. A friend of mine had an Abit BX6 Pentium
II board that had a broken PCI slot. If there was a card in that slot,
using it sometimes caused spontaneous reboots. You could try using
another motherboard to see if possibly the AGP slot is faulty.
