Hi, I'm Linus Torvalds, I assume that most of you have heard my name before.
Because of my obvious interest in the success of Linux around the world, I like to, once in a while, subscribe to mailing lists of various Linux user groups and eavesdrop on the discussion. That gives me a nice warm feeling, about my work on Linux really making a difference to real people out there. A few months ago I subscribed to this list (IGLU), and I would like to congratulate you on being one of the most interesting and lively LUGs that I have seen in a long time. I've seen here people taking real interest in Linux, people trying to help one another and form a close and friendly community, people developing free software, and even a few aspiring (and inspiring!) open-source ideologists. It is really heart-warming for me to see this tight community, and I hope that the Middle East could soon become more like this list, a fountain of creativity and brotherhood, and less of what it is today, a fountain of tears and blood. I am looking forward to visiting Israel someday (hopefully soon!) and meeting all you wonderful folks in person. Last but not least, I would like to thank you all for supporting my plea to call our favorite system by a short catchy name, "Linux", instead of longer and more cumbersome names. I read that one of the proponents of these long, ugly, names visited Israel recently, and I was glad to see that he wasn't able to convince you to lower the "Linux" flag. I believe that if we ever want open-source software to succeed, we must all work together and fly one flag, and I think the Linux banner is the one that is most likely to get the attention of the media and of the people worldwide. Continue with the good work you're all doing, and God bless. Linus. ===== Linus Torvalds, | "Software is like sex, it Linux Head Honcho | is better when it's free!" __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
