The cable issue is mostly historical. All network equipment is devided
into 2 categories:
- DTE (Data Terminal Equipment: NICs)
- DCE (Data Communication Equipment: hubs, switches, routers, etc...)

DTE<---(cross)-->DTE
DCE<---(cross)--->DCE
DTE<---(streight)--->DCE
