Hi Shlomo, Few days ago I installed redhat 9 on Thinkpad T40 - the basic stuff works well (video, audio, ethernet, modem [use smartlink driver], pcmcia, usb, etc) You might need some patches for your kernel in order to have better DMA support and better ACPI support. I only have experience with redhat 9 on the T40, and I didn't try other distributions. OTOH - our company has bought me the Thinkpad R40e, and I must say - this machine SUCKS! crappy USB (Ali), and you simply cannot install redhat on it! (I tried Severn beta, Taroon beta, redhat 9) - you just stick the CD inside, press enter, and when you want to skip the media check - bang.. keyboard is totally locked, so I'm forced to use mandrake 9.1, which (oddly) seems to work ok (but no good ACPI, need to compile this stuff).. Good luck, Hetz ---------- Original Message ----------- From: Shlomo Yona <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wed, 17 Sep 2003 13:57:06 +0300 (IDT) Subject: Linux on a laptop > Hello, > > Sadly, I gave back the IBM Thinkpad T22 my thesis advisor let me > keep for two years.
