At least in Mozilla, there is a problem that may be related. The problem is that mozilla doesn't handle Courier's limitation on number of simultanious connections properly. Try going to Edit/Mail&Newsgroup settings. Go to your account, and expand the "Server Settings" slide. Click the "Advanced" button. In the IMAP tab, set the "Maximum number of server connections to cache" to 3. See if that solves your problem.
