Perl is the established leader. Python is the upstart language. I'd
describe the differences between Perl and Python as more cultural
and of taste than technical.

The main technical difference is that python began as an object oriented
language and perl added it later on.

python.org has a comparision between perl, python and tcl. Tom Christiansen
of perl.com also has written a comparision.
