[LIH] MTU for dial-up

Hello,
I wish to change the MTU value to 576. I tried  /etc/ppp/options (as man
ppp) as well as kppp arguments settings. Still I am getting default MTU
of 1500 only. (I use RH6.1 and kde)
Could I get some help on this please.
