Dear friends,

I've a few questions regarding kernel compilation.

1. I got the kernel upgrade 2.4.1 in the March 01 PCQ in bz2 format. The
question is does this file also contain the modules? How do I check whether
I've got the module files or not?

I extracted the various files and compiled the kernel. But when I do the
'make modules' command, I see lots of processing, etc., but the modules are
not created. I checked up after giving the 'make modules_install'. The Readme
says that the module files are also available from the same source as the
kernel files.

Assuming I've got the files and installed them using 'make modules_install'
command, do I need to do anything in order to load them and use them? Boot
messages show that various modules could not be loaded.

2. I upgraded the kernel and rebooted successfully, but I'm getting the
following error messages:

Bringing up interface eth0 - Determining IP information for eth0: Operation
failed [FAILED]

Starting NFS file locking service: Starting NFS locked: lockdsvc - Invalid
arguement [FAILED]

Are the two error related?

I tried re-compiling the kernel after making various modifications, including
changing the Networking options from 'm' to 'y' (module to add to kernel) but
no go. Where have I gone wrong?

with regards,

Ajay Shankar
