uname -r shows 2.2.16 on my machine though the kernel loaded is 2.2.16-3.
Also, at the login prompt it shows 2.2.16. This seems to be messing with
depmod & modprobe.
Now this message comes from /etc/issue which if I recall correctly is
re-written on boot up. can someone tell me which file writes to /etc/issue
(is it the same file in rh as well as suse ? because now even suse shows the
login prompt as 2.2.16 instead of 2.2.16-3.
