Arun, the easiest method is to go in for RH 7.1 available with the PCQ July.
It uses Kernel 2.4.x and you shouldn't have any problems configuring X.

I'd the same problem - if you go thru the mailing list dated mid-May you
will see we had a discussion on it, but it didn't work out fully. I finally
rebuilt my kernel from 2.2.14-12 to 2.4.1; now it works fine. The kernel
2.4.1 source is available in Mar01 PCQ.

Also check out PCQ articles: 'Linux on i810' on Feb 01, 'The Latest X Server'
