A external modem works fine and I had been using a dialup to give
internet access to a LAN for more than a year - it definitely worked
when I had to attempt that a few weeks back. What might be a problem is
the Motorola proprietary driver (for internal modem) might be
conflicting with the ethernet card driver - who knows - it is
proprietary right :).
