Not necessarily a 1024 cylinder problem... If LILO did not complain about the cylinder, then it isn't that.
The problem could be due to the way the BIOS addresses the disk. Most BIOSes have an option to switch between CHS addressing and LBA addressing. Choose LBA addressing. In other words, the BIOS may have a 'DOS' access mode and 'Other' access mode. Choose 'Other' and try. This is BIOS specific.. show you need to experiment a bit.
