That's not 64MB VRAM. That's 64MB address space apperture. VRAM for a typical 
i810 board is 2MB. and linux manages it neatly. In free it will count only for 
126MB. So that's not needed. 255MB instead of 256MB is a hack to convince 
(idiot)motherboard.

Frankly I have some doubts regarding BIOS.

1)How much useful it's these days?
2)Why don't they burn a linux kernel in BIOS? It can do much better job and 
linux will have much better supprot for motherboards..
