I dont think the mem=255 was the only problem - if that was so you would
have been able to boot into the rescue mode. The rescue mode mounts your
partitions into /tmp IIRC. First thing first boot using the CD and
select custom install that will let you select fdisk for partitioning.
Use that to check your partitions. Probably one or more of your
partition entries got the wrong values. If you are lucky it is only the
partition type which got messed up and all you have to do is update it
and reboot the machine. At this stage boot with a floppy or if you have
a windows partition just copy the dosutils directory from the first disk
and run autoboot.bat from the DOS prompt (not from inside windows). Once
inside Linux just update lilo.conf and run '/sbin/lilo -v' again.
