There is this book 'Art of Assembly' by Hyde which is well written in a manner that can be understood by fresh hands to computer assembly. BTW, Linux is the kernel of the greater system called as the GNU. Linux, the kernel is released under the GNU GPL and hence it is also known as GNU/Linux. Using the GNU assembler (an online copy of the manual can be had) is a good point to start off with. Another book by Jeff Duntemann (John Wiley Publishers) which is also very apt and to the point, I do not remember the title.
