There is this book 'Art of Assembly'  by Hyde which is well written in a
manner that can be understood by fresh hands to computer assembly.  BTW,
Linux is the kernel of the greater system called as the GNU.  Linux, the
kernel  is released under  the GNU  GPL and  hence it  is also  known as
GNU/Linux.

Using the GNU assembler  (an online copy of the manual can  be had) is a
good point to start off with.

Another book  by Jeff  Duntemann (John Wiley  Publishers) which  is also
very apt and to the point, I do not remember the title.
