As I have said in other mail, the default VRAM for this board is 2MB most
probably and you are not goin to get 32/24bpp for any decent resolution. So
pump up the VRAM some way from BIOS and then reconfigure X..

    Hello all,
                      There is generally no setting for the amount of 
video ram to be allocated out of the Total RAM in the BIOS of the 
mercury i810. There is a setting for window size (32MB or 64MB). 
Changing this makes no difference.  However you can modify the 
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file and change the amount of videoram to 
something like 8192 (8MB-if you have lots of RAM) etc in the graphical 
devices section. Also note that in i810 chipsets DRI will work only in 
8,16bit modes and not for 24 or 32 bpp.
