Well it depends on your kernel configuration, if you have compiled it for
a 386 and above, the next time you boot on a new machine it should
recognise it as an i686, however if it arch specific like already for 686,
backward is not possible. But, generally all dist's kernels are all
compiled for 386 arch to preserve backward compatibility. Of course, your
other configs like x,soundcard have to be redone with change in h/w.
