Hi, I have written a patch for serialmail to support SMTP AUTH and its working fine with my SMTP server and also for my client but not against this particular SMTP server running postfix.
serialmail bounces the mail back to me saying ---- <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: 202.108.44.248 said: 555 Unsupported option: ---- The return code 555 is thrown If the SMTP server does not recognize or cannot implement one or more of the parameters associated with a particular MAIL FROM or RCPT TO command. In this case the AUTH parameter to the MAIL FROM is not being recognized by that SMTP server. The SMTP transaction is something like this. [dushy@ghost dushy]$ telnet smtp.xxxxxx.com 25 Trying xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx... Connected to smtp.xxxxx.com. Escape character is '^]'. 220 xxx.xxxxx.com ESMTP ehlo archeanit.com 250-xxx.xxxx.com 250-PIPELINING 250-SIZE 4200000 250-ETRN 250-AUTH LOGIN 250 8BITMIME AUTH LOGIN 334 VXNlcm5hbWU6 xxxxx 334 UGFzc3dvcmQ6 xxxxx 235 Authentication successful MAIL FROM:<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> AUTH=<> Connection closed by foreign host. I guess this is where it bails out because there are no parameters to RCPT TO command. What may be the problem..is it necessary to give the address-spec to the AUTH parameter or will <> suffice ? And also how do i give the address-spec..is there any particular syntax to be followed ?. If i remove the optional AUTH parameter to MAIL FROM ..i get a bounce saying --- <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: 202.108.44.212 said: 550 <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: Local user only --- Hope i have explained the problem clearly.I will put the code somewhere if someone needs it .. P.S : Is there any documentation to implement the SMTP AUTH functionality on the client side.
