run sendmail as /usr/sbin/sendmail -bd -q1h or something - and have
/usr/sbin/sendmail -q in /etc/ppp/ip-up.local, along with fetchmail.

see the postfix faq (or postfix.html on my site) for a small shell script to
do this more efficiently.
