Dear list members,

On 20 GB hard disk I had following partitions -
c: Primary dos 40 % = about 8gb
d: Extended dos 60% = about 12 gb
e,f,g were logical dos drives in d:
H: cdrom drive.

I used FIPS, from windows 98 despite advice to use it from a DOS
floppy to create another partion in C: of about 16 % about 3 gb.
Windows explorer recognised it after some time it was called H: & my
cdrom drive became I:. Which became inaccessible for some time. After
a reboot it baecame accessible again.

I used cfdisk from debian cd ( developerIQ) to make linux partition of
newly created partition (/dev/hda3).
Installed deb there.

Now dos fdisk says

partition status Type Size System

c: 1 A Dos 4612mb FAT 32

        2 Non dos 3028 mb
        3 Ext dos 11453 mb

Bur windows explorer still doesnt recognise the new partion, it still
says -
c: has a total size of 4.48gb & free space of 3.59 gb -total size of
the c:
has reduced correctly, but free space seems wrong.

I think it is counting Nondos -ext2 partion in the free space.
Is there any problem why it is not showing free space correctly,
because it cannt true = mydocuments & program file should together be
more than 3 gb.

Secondly I was going to specify a swap partition during installtion,
coulnt find any option to create a new partition from existing one in
cfdisk. There was one option - I think 'n', but I could not
understand -
result -
a deb on single / without a swap.

Now is there any way I can make a partition or specify a file to be
used as swap.
I would be very grateful for any help.

~Sachin
